Medical isolation transformer. 

The medical isolation transformer is a special transformer for medical IT systems. PTC thermistors and bimetallic strip connectors are installed in the windings to monitor the winding temperature. The whole is impregnated with vacuum insulating paint for corrosion resistance. Adopting a low-temperature rise design, it has low heat generation.

Basic information: 

■ The isolation transformer has two basic functions: - Ensure the continuity of operation in the case of a ground fault. - Reduce the voltage that a patient can withstand within a safe range. (Therefore, when current flows through a patient's body, it can protect them from the danger of electric shock.) 

■ Since the second indirect contact is equivalent to a short circuit occurrence, if the subsequent tripping of the protection equipment occurs, it will pose a serious threat to the patient. - Therefore, electrical equipment must be connected to an isolation transformer to monitor any signal of insulation degradation in the first ground fault. 

■ GB16895.24-2005/IEC 60364-7-710:2002 - "Electrical installations of buildings - Part 7-710: Requirements for special installations or locations - Medical locations". 

■ GB19212.16-2005/IEC 61558-2-15:1999 - "Safety of power transformers, power supply units and similar products - Part 16: Particular requirements for isolating transformers for the supply of medical locations".
