Measurement Principle and Application Characteristics
The measurement method is based on radiation transmission and absorption, with the directly measured physical quantity being areal density (grammage). When X-rays penetrate a material, they are reflected, scattered, or absorbed by the material, leading to a certain degree of attenuation in radiation intensity. This attenuation is positively correlated with the areal density of the penetrated material.
When the bulk density of a material is constant or highly consistent, the material's thickness can be measured by converting from the bulk density (Areal Density = Density * Thickness).
The X-ray thickness gauge is a low-energy radiation device. The X-rays can be turned on and off via the power supply, generally requiring no special protection.
The X-ray thickness gauge typically uses an O-type scanning frame.
