As early as ancient times, angle measurements have been used in the construction of buildings, for simple urban plans, and of course for sea navigation. These tools are very inaccurate, and only by developing new materials and processing techniques will it be possible to develop new and more accurate angle measurement tools. For example, this improvement led to the development of a sextant based on the 1727 plan by the British physicist and astronomer Isaac Newton, and the first theodolite built by the physicist Dollund in 1760. Both tools can be regarded as landmarks in the history of angle measurement.
Measurement of angle and tilt is essential in modern technology. Tilt measurement is a special area of angle measurement that is used in various forms, especially for quality assurance purposes. Inclinometers can be used not only to measure inclination, but also to measure the straightness of straight lines, such as guide rails or surface contours, as well as long-term inclination monitoring of structures.
Due to increasing requirements for precision, resolution, reliability and recording, classic levels that used to serve engineers well during the construction of buildings, bridges and machines are increasingly being replaced by electronic inclinometer systems and corresponding analysis software.
The latest development is in the direction of tilt sensors, which are integrated with sensors for other indicators. Their measurement data can be transmitted via a cable connection or wireless standards such as Bluetooth, WLAN, etc. and read by an appropriate evaluation unit. Many of our customers are increasingly using our measurement equipment and sensors as part of advanced digital networks. Measurement data is forwarded to information systems for processing, such as for monitoring structures, management processes, or for statistical purposes, such as in quality assurance systems.
