Since 1938, Bridgeport has been designing and manufacturing small milling machines that are versatile and reliable. Bridgeport is developed by Rudolph F. Bannow and Magnus Wahlstrom founded in Bridgeport, Connecticut, with the goal of producing milling machines for in-house use at their own factory.
Bridgeport Machine Tool Company, also commonly known as Bridgeport, is a well-known American manufacturer of milling machines, machining centers and other machine tools. Its * representative product is the Bridgeport Series I milling machine, which has become a major product in machine shops and manufacturing facilities in the United States and around the world.
Bridgeport's first revolutionary design was a Series I standard milling machine. It features a turret-style head that can be rotated and tilted, allowing for multi-purpose machining operations. Bridgeport's Series I milling machines quickly became popular among mechanics and manufacturers due to their simplicity, versatility and reliability. As their brand awareness increased, Bridgeport began to build their legacy. Over the years, Bridgeport has made various improvements and innovations to its milling machines, such as digital readout (DROs), CNC(Computer Numerical Control) functions and other modern functions, while maintaining its same reputation in the industry.
Bridgeport will be acquired by InCompass in 2023. As the InCompass™ brand, Bridgeport will continue to grow the business with other InCompass™ manufacturing partners, contributing to the vision of creating manufacturing growth solutions. Bridgeport's name and tradition exist in the form of the various milling machines still in use today, and through its influence on the design principles of the machine tool industry.
