IONTOF is an innovative manufacturer of surface analysis instruments with different product lines for time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) and high-sensitivity low-energy ion scattering (LEIS).
IONTOF was established as a classic branch of the University of Münster and has also become a technical leader in the fields of TOF-SIMS and Rice instrumentation.
The company was founded in 1989 by Professor Alfred Benninghoven, Dr. Ewald Niehuis and Mr. Thomas Heller to commercialize original research carried out by Professor Benninghoven and his team at the University of Münster in Germany since the early 1980s. Since the technology became commercially viable, IONTOF has made a number of product improvements, with more than 350 instruments used in industrial and academic laboratories around the world.
Today, the IONTOF Group consists of four different companies. IONTOF GmbH sells, produces and repairs all IONTOF analytical instruments. IONTOF Technologies Ltd., which is responsible for all R D projects. U.S. and Japanese subsidiaries established for sales and after-sales services in the United States (founded in 2000) and Japan (founded in 2022).
